Bananagrams Game
A simple word game for 2-8 players, Bananagrams is like Scrabble’s little brother. It’s faster, louder and enables all participants to play simultaneously, adding to the fun.
The game consists of a bright yellow banana-shaped pouch full of lettered plastic tiles called ‘the bunch’. Each player takes a number of tiles (this figure varies according to the number of players) from the bunch and the remaining tiles are kept in the middle of the group. The tiles should be face down until one player shouts ‘split’ and the race to win begins.
The aim of Bananagrams is for each player to make a crossword with their tiles. The words must intersect each other horizontally, vertically, left to rightor top to bottom.
Players can rearrange their tiles at any time. Difficult to use tiles can be returned to the bunch face down, but three replacement tiles must be taken and the player has to say ‘dump’ to let the others know what he/she is doing.
When a player has used all their tiles they say ‘peel’ which is the cue for everyone to draw another tile from the bunch. The game continues until someone uses all their tiles. The first player to do so yells ‘bananas!’ and they win the hand. The other players can then inspect their crossword to ensure that all the words are valid. If they aren’t, that player is called a ‘rotten banana’. Play continues until the number of players outweighs the remaining tiles in the bunch.
Light and easy to transport, Bananagrams is perfect to take on a family holiday or long journey. Suitable for ages 5 and up, Bananagrams is available at around £12.49 - compare prices below.
